Our Programs

In partnership with the school
During and outside school hours.

Garden Program

A student favorite, garden classes take place
2-3 times a month across all grades. The PTA and Washington Elementary partner with
Growing Together to bring this enriching outdoor education to our students,
boosting their understanding and awareness of environmental science, and contributing to overall improvement in social skills, nutritional awareness and academic performance. Quarterly garden work parties coordinated by the PTA are an opportunity for parents and families to get involved and help our garden transition through the seasons.

Music classes

Music and the Brain is a hands-on program that teaches our TK-2nd graders to read
and play music through classic keyboard instruction. Classes are taught weekly. Neurological research links music and cognitive development, so when children receive sequential music instruction,
it impacts their proficiency in language, reading and math.

Art events

Our PTA Art Committee organizes community Paint Nights throughout the year, bringing guest artists in to teach out students and their families.

Cultural events

In partnership with AAPAC and ELAC, the PTA organizes and funds cultural celebrations to build confidence and a sense of pride, as well as to cultivate empathy and cross-cultural understanding. Hispanic Heritage Month and Black History Month are two key pillars of programming during our school year.

Community events

To foster connection and build a strong, supportive community for our students to thrive in, the PTA puts on multiple community events including Kermés (an annual outdoor festival and Hispanic cultural celebration), movie nights, school dances and more.

STEM program

The PTA STEM committee partners with the school to plan, fund and implement community programming such as STEM night and Math night, as well as class field trips and class projects related to STEM.

Health education

PTA fills in the funding gap when it comes
to health education. We provide positive
body education as well as vape & tobacco prevention education to our 4th-6th
graders, annually.
